CEU Event – Mindfulness in a Forensic Setting

Summit Psychological Associates will be hosting a learning workshop at its 90 N Summit St, Seminar Center, in Akron, Ohio. Come learn about utilizing mindfulness techniques as they apply to the forensic population, and clients diagnosed with personality disorders. CEU’s will be available for psychologists and an application has been submitted for social worker and clinical counselor CEU’s. Participants will earn a total of 3 CEU’s for this workshop.  The presentation will occur on April 7, 2017, from 9am – Noon. Seats are limited, so be sure to register quickly if you wish to attend. The cost for the workshop is $75.00.

This presentation will educate clinical staff on the characteristics and therapeutic benefits of mindfulness, and provide information on using mindfulness to address symptoms of depression, anxiety and personality disorders.

  • Teach the definition, origins and benefits of mindfulness
  • Educate about the resistance and stigma related to using mindfulness in a forensic setting
  • Teach therapeutic techniques in using mindfulness with forensic population, specifically personality disorders

Opiate/Heroin Treatment Program in Portage County


FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Summit Psychological Associates (SPA) announced today it is expanding its VIVITROL treatment program (VTP) to Portage County beginning August 3, 2016. The VTP is a medication assisted treatment (MAT) program that provides opiate and heroin addicted clients with wrap-around services tailored to their individual mental health and substance abuse needs. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder – Fourth of July

I fondly remember, as a child, piling in the car and driving to an empty parking lot to watch Fourth of July fireworks with my family. The spectacle of vivid lights and colors was awe-inspiring to me as a kid. Before and after the event, I would light off small, unassuming fireworks such as sparklers, snakes in the grass or smoke bombs.  I can recall the entire neighborhood crackling with laughter and noise, and smelling of smoke and sulfur. I never imagined fireworks were not enjoyable for everyone. Continue reading

For a few moments allow yourself to take several nice, long, deep breaths. Notice the cool air coming in, filling your lungs, and the soothing warm air going out. Just let all your thoughts float away as you bring your attention to your breathing… in and out. You might mentally scan your body and notice if you’re holding any tension in your muscles. If you are, just gently let all that tension melt away with every out breath…. bring your attention to your breathing, in and out…. in and out… let yourself feel more and more comfortable sitting where you are.
