Clinician Biographies

Deborah Walsh, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist at Summit Psychological Associates, Inc.  Dr. Walsh has been employed at SPA for twenty years and has served in the role of Clinical Director for the agency since 2014.  For eighteen years she has also served in the role of Clinical Training Director for The Ohio Psychology Internship, an APA accredited pre-doctoral psychology internship that provides training to interns from across the United States and Canada.  Dr. Walsh provides training seminars to the staff and psychology interns on ethics, diagnosis and treatment of childhood disorders, Motivational Interviewing, and wellness.  She completed her doctoral degree at the University of Akron where she was trained in the diagnosis and treatment of adults.  Dr. Walsh completed her psychology internship at Child Adolescent Behavioral Health in Canton, Ohio where she gained specialties in working with pre-schoolers, children, adolescents and their families.     (Return to top)


Meryl A. Orlando, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist who has been employed at Summit Psychological Associates, Inc. since 1986. In addition to carrying a clinical caseload, Dr. Orlando supervises psychology interns and psychology assistants. She is the Assistant Clinical Director of the agency and also serves as the Chair of the Peer Review Committee. Dr. Orlando provides outpatient counseling with adults, adolescents, and children in individual, group, marital/couples, and family modalities.  Common presenting problems for her clients include anxiety, depression, grief, anger management, eating disorders, and stress management. Other typical presenting problems include trauma/abuse issues, substance abuse, phase of life issues, divorce issues, chronic pain and parenting difficulties. Dr. Orlando also work with children exhibiting emotional or behavioral problems, individuals with developmental disabilities, and the geriatric population.  In addition to providing outpatient psychotherapy, Dr. Orlando performs comprehensive psychological evaluations, such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum, bariatric evaluations and spinal cord stimulator evaluations.  She also provides psychological treatment for legally-involved individuals.  Dr. Orlando received her Master of Arts degree and her Doctorate of Philosophy degree, both in clinical psychology, from Case Western Reserve University. She completed her Pre-doctoral internship at Yale University School of Medicine, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Pennsylvania, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Candice Drenski, LPCC, CCTP has been a mental health clinician at Summit Psychological Associates since 2014. Ms. Drenski has worked in a range of clinical settings including community based, school based and office outpatient, with children and adults, over the last 6 years.  Ms. Drenski focuses on assessment, diagnosis and treatment of anxiety and trauma based disorders; from a trauma informed and holistic orientation. Treatment and healing can be fun. Creative, expressive and experiential interventions are utilized while aligning with client’s strengths and preferences for individualized treatment. Ms. Drenski earned her Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Counseling from Bowling Green State University, Ohio.  Ms. Drenski has provided presentations on trauma informed care, trauma specific interventions, and treating those with trauma based diagnoses.     (Return to top)


Christy Rolland, M.S. has over twelve years of experience providing services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Services have been provided in multiple settings, including vocational and residential sites, developmental centers, and various community settings. Services provided include behavioral assessments, development and monitoring of behavior support plans, individual therapy, and various psychological assessments (including guardianship evaluations, functioning level evaluations, and Waiver evaluations). Ms. Rolland received her Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology at Ohio University, where she specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents. She completed her Pre-doctoral internship at Wright State University. Ms. Rolland has provided presentations regarding parenting education programs and provision of services to individuals with disabilities.     (Return to top)


Dan Compton, M.A. LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor at Summit Psychological Associates, Inc. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from The Ohio State University and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Akron. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an Officer and Pilot as well as being a former Police Officer with the City of Columbus Ohio and Summit County Ohio. His specialties include Anger Management, Drug and Alcohol Dependence, PTSD, Phobias, Anxiety, Depression, and other mental and emotional conditions.     (Return to top)


Jill Calderon is a psychology assistant at the Ohio Psychology Internship in Akron, Ohio. She
graduated from the University of Miami with a major in Environmental Science and International
Studies in 2000, obtained her Master of Arts in Psychology from City University of New York at
Queens College in 2008 and her Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from State
University of New York at New Paltz in 2011. Jill is currently completing her Doctorate of
Philosophy in Counseling Psychology from University of North Dakota and her expected
graduation date is August 2017. She specializes in forensic psychology and has experience
working in community mental health and prison settings.   (Return to top)


Julianne Massimo, M.A. is a psychology assistant at Summit Psychological Associates, Inc. at both the Akron and Canton offices.  Prior to that, Ms. Massimo has over 20 years experience as a psychology assistant with the Cuyahoga County Board of DD providing behavioral consultations, staff training, behavior support committee work, functional behavioral analysis, assessments, and both individual and group counseling for people with DD and their families.  She is currently completing her PhD at the University of Akron in the Counselor Education and Supervision program this year.   Ms. Massimo enjoys helping new clinicians develop their clinical skills and teaches as adjunct faculty in the counselor training programs at Walsh University, where she completed her doctoral internship, and at South University.  Her clinical focus at SPA is both working with adults with developmental disabilities with mental health concerns and working with adults and adolescents dealing with depression and anxiety.  Another area of her clinical focus is loss and grief therapy– including both meaning-centered and mindfulness approaches to loss.      (Return to top)


 

Mr. Stranathan is a 2012 graduate of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and received a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology.  He has also completed graduate course work in Clinical Psychology, School Psychology, and Applied Intelligence.

Mr. Stranathan has over twenty years of experience in the provision of psychological assessment services to adolescents and adults with a wide variety of emotional, behavioral, academic and neuropsychological problems.  Mr. Stranathan is proficient in the administration, scoring and interpretation of an extensive number of psychometric tests, and has performed evaluations for the Bureau of Disability Determination/Social Security, Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation, and local Developmental Disability Boards.  Additionally, Mr. Stranathan has provided assessments for a number of area attorneys whose clients are the subject of Guardianship proceedings.

Mr. Stranathan has considerable skill in the delivery of court testimony, and has extensive experience in conducting forensic evaluations for both civil and criminal cases.  He is regularly asked to provide Competency to Stand Trial (CST) evaluations for both youth and adults involved with the juvenile justice and adult criminal court systems.  Mr. Stranathan is additionally skilled in assessing juveniles who have experienced traumatic events that may be contributing to behavior that has caused them to come to the attention of juvenile authorities.     (Return to top)


Natalie Malloy, LPCC LICDC is a licensed counselor in the field of mental health and alcohol and drug treatment at Summit Psychological Associates.  Ms. Malloy has five years experience aiding clients with mood related disorders, marital counseling, trauma based diagnoses, and working with adolescents with a wide spectrum of difficulties.  Ms. Malloy has provided services in both residential, intensive outpatient, and outpatient settings.  She works to utilize cognitive behavioral counseling, conflict resolution skills, cognitive processing therapy, and behavioral modification reinforcement to aide her client’s with the issues they bring to her.  Ms. Natalie Malloy received her Masters of Community Counseling from the University of Dayton University.  Natalie has provided presentations on Trauma based therapy within her field.  When Natalie isn’t working she enjoys spending time with family and friends staying active playing volleyball.      (Return to top)


Sarah Day, LPCC is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and senior clinician for forensic services at Summit Psychological Associates (SPA). She was born and raised in the Detroit, Michigan area. She earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice, a Master of Science in criminal justice, and a Master of Arts in mental health counseling from Bowling Green State University. Sarah Day has over five years of experience providing mental health treatment and specializes in working with adult sexual offenders, domestic violence offenders, individuals with chemical dependency problems, and individuals with criminal histories. Additionally, Sarah Day provides clinical oversight and management of the forensic programming at SPA, including anger management, sexual offender, and cognitive behavioral programs.     (Return to top)


Sylvia O’Bradovich, Psy.D. is a clinical psychologist, internship supervisor and senior clinician for forensic services at Summit Psychological Associates (SPA). She was born and raised in the Chicago-land area where she earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology, a Master of Arts in forensic psychology and a Doctor of Psychology in clinical psychology. In 2009, she relocated to Akron, Ohio to complete her pre-doctoral internship at SPA. She subsequently completed her post-doctoral training at SPA and became a licensed clinical psychologist in the State of Ohio in August 2014. Dr. O’Bradovich has over ten years of experience completing psychological evaluations and providing mental health treatment. She specializes in forensic psychological evaluations for various court systems and referral sources to provide expert opinions to aid in answering psycho-legal questions. She specializes in working with juvenile sexual offenders as well as male and female adult sexual offenders and individuals with personality disorders and criminal histories. In addition to her clinical and forensic expertise, Dr. O’Bradovich serves as an internship supervisor for the Ohio Psychology Internship program and assists in the selection, training and supervision of pre-doctoral interns. She provides clinical oversight and training for forensic services at SPA and is a member of the Quality Assurance Committee.     (Return to top)
